Stamford Bull Running

The old winter custom of Bull Running (releasing a live bull in the streets of the town to be chased by the inhabitants) was banned in Stamford during the 19th century but has recently been revived – in the form of a colourful bi-annual summertime carnival with a Georgian theme! The large paper sculpture of a bull was wheeled through the streets and finally set alight on the town’s water meadows.
